If you've been considering Botox in Staten Island or Brooklyn, NY we want you to know how to make the most of your treatment, whether you choose us or another dermatology clinic. So let's talk about how to make the most of your Botox treatment.

What To Do After Botox

While Botox has a certain level of efficacy no matter what you do, there are specific things everyone should do after their Botox treatment to ensure the best possible results. These range from avoiding intense physical activity immediately following the procedure to facial exercises to help the treatment work better.

Avoid Strenuous Activity

While you can take a nice walk and resume your normal day-to-day activities after Botox, avoid strenuous activities like sports, cardio, and weight lifting for a couple of days. Activities like this increase heart rate and blood flow which can sometimes cause the Botox injection to spread to other neighboring areas of the body, reducing its effectiveness and potentially causing unintended side effects. It can also increase the risk of swelling and bruising in the treatment area.

Don't Lay Down or Lean Forward for 4 Hours

Much like intense physical activity, lying down or leaning forward too far may cause the Botox to disperse itself outside of the intended target area. In addition, remaining upright can help reduce any swelling or bruising.

Sleep on Your Back

Sleeping on your back is important if you've had Botox to reduce crow's feet. These injection areas are typically near or on the side of the face, and sleeping on your side or stomach can cause pressure on the treatment area for hours at a time.

Avoid Cosmetics Immediately After Treatment

Don't put on makeup after receiving Botox treatment. Even the mild pressure of applying foundation and other cosmetics can cause Botox to disperse out of its intended treatment area.

Don't Drink Alcohol

Falling squarely into both the what to do after Botox and what to do before Botox categories, alcohol of any kind should be avoided. Alcohol dilates the blood vessels and increases blood pressure. This can cause worsening of any swelling or bruising you may experience after your Botox treatment.

Avoid Other Skin Treatments

Wait 24 to 48 hours before receiving any other skin treatments such as facials, microdermabrasion, laser skin therapy, or massages.

Avoid the Sun and Excess Heat

Excess heat increases blood pressure and can promote excess bruising. If possible, avoid prolonged periods of direct sunlight for a couple of days following treatment. In addition, avoid hot showers, tanning beds, saunas, and hot tubs.
