Would you say you feel comfortable in your own skin? Have you ever left work early or skipped work due to a bad skin day? What about a date or party – has your skin ever caused you to cancel or reschedule?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions, then don’t worry – you’re not alone.

In fact, a survey by Massage Envy found that nearly 60% of Americans don’t feel comfortable in their own skin and more than half of us have skipped or left work, a date, or a party early due to our skin condition.

And while skincare products promise to help, most of us struggle to find relief.

In that same survey, 65% of Americans said they’ve wasted money on skincare products that didn’t work, and 67% reported being concerned that the skincare products they use are doing more harm than good.

If you fall in that category, then you might be a candidate for RF microneedling

And if you’ve never heard of RF microneedling, then you’re in for a treat because it very well could be the treatment that has you falling in love with your Staten Island skin again – and that’s not an exaggeration.

RF Microneedling: What Is It & Why Does It Matter?

RF microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to rejuvenate the skin – often resulting in clearer, brighter, and healthier skin.

  • Microneedling is the process of using tiny, ultrafine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which helps stimulate collagen and elastin production through the skin’s natural healing response.

Don’t worry – the needles used are no longer than four millimeters, so you’ll barely feel anything once treatment begins. In fact, most of our patients find the procedure to be rather soothing and therapeutic.

  • Radiofrequency (RF) energy is a form of electromagnetic energy that heats the deeper layers of the skin (dermis) without damaging the outer layer (epidermis) to rejuvenate the skin from within.

While traditional RF energy treatments apply heat directly to the skin, RF microneedling allows that heat to travel through the ultrafine needles and into the deeper layers of the skin – where it works its magic.

Exion vs. Agnes: Which Procedure Reigns Supreme?

Anyone who has shown at least a little bit of interest in RF microneedling will quickly learn that there are dozens of different devices, techniques, brands, manufacturers, and other options out there to consider.

But if you were to ask us, there are only two treatments that matter:

EXION RF Microneedling and Agnes RF Microneedling

These two workstations achieve similar goals through similar means, but they utilize differing technologies – which can make one more suitable than the other depending on your specific skin goals and needs.

Don’t worry – we’ll take a closer look at both workstations below!

EXION RF Microneedling

EXION is a whole-body RF microneedling workstation that uses monopolar RF energy, microneedling, AI-powered pulse control, and ultrasound technology to promote a youthful and healthier appearance.

There are four applicators on the workstation, each with their own specific purpose:

  1. EXION Fractional RF – a microneedling RF device that reaches up to 8mm depth without full needle insertion and utilizes AI to optimize energy delivery for single-pass procedures.
  1. EXION Face – a handheld device that utilizes monopolar radiofrequency and targeted ultrasound to improve blood circulation, stimulate fibroblasts, and increase hyaluronic acid in the face.
  1. EXION Body – a handheld device that uses the same dual-energy delivery as EXION Face, but it’s designed to treat larger body areas, such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and knees.
  1. EMFEMME 360 – a handheld device that uses 360° homogeneous volumetric energy delivery to improve laxity and circulation in the intimate area (which can help improve sexual dysfunction).

The EXION workstation allows us to customize your RF microneedling experience to better meet your goals and needs – ensuring our patients see the results they were expecting before treatment began.

Agnes RF Microneedling

The Agnes RF Microneedling device was carefully developed by Dr. Gun Young Ahn over the course of two decades. It was originally intended to be a treatment for acne, but has since become so much more.

There are three things that make Agnes unique from other RF microneedling devices:

  1. RF System 1MHz – unlike other RF microneedling devices that use a 5MHz system, AGNES heats the surrounding tissue at a slower rate, which means it can cover a broader treatment area.
  1. Square Wave Energy – where most RF energy based devices use a bell-shaped Sine wave form, Agnes uses a square wave energy to minimize energy deviation and reduce skin burns.
  1. Micro Blade Pin – a patented needle tip with nine different lengths for use in various parts of the body. The needles are even equipped with a camera to improve effectiveness and safety.

While both Agnes and EXION are safe and effective for most patients, Agnes is more suitable for patients needing precise, targeted treatment for issues like under-eye bags, double chin, or localized fat pockets.
